Running for Beginners: New course starts 02/11/17

Our next BodyFit Beginner's Running Course will start on Thursday 2nd November 2017, 6.30pm . This is a ten week course aimed at complete beginners. It is timed so that by the end of the course, the new runners will be able to run a 5K parkrun or similar length event. If you know of anyone who may be interested, please pass on the details.

The course fee of £70 for one class or £98 for two classes, also includes social-media and email support, a detailed running schedule to follow and advice on injury prevention. Junior and student runners are also invited to take part in the course for a reduced fee.

Ideally, everyone will need to attend the first class on Thursday 2nd November, 6.30pm, however, you will then be able to choose which day(s) to join us for training. Your choices are:

Your run leaders will be Lynn Trussell, Tony Jewell, Judy Reynolds and Sam Ayers with additional help and support from other members of our coaching team.

Are you part of the Brigham School or Lorton School family? If you're planning on raising money for your school by entering either the Brigham School 10K or the Lorton School 10K in spring 2018, then you can benefit from a 10% discount to the Beginner Course fees. You will need to provide:

  • Proof of entry to either 10K and
  • Pledge to raise a minimum of £30 for you school via sponsorship

BodyFit Blokes: New course starts 06/11/17

Our NEW BodyFit Blokes 6-week pre-Christmas fitness boost starts on Monday 6th November 2017, 6.15pm . This is a men only 6-week pre-Christmas fitness boost. It's an activity session, outside in the fresh air, based around running or walking briskly if you can’t run yet. If you know of anyone who may be interested, please pass on the details.

The course fee of £39 for one session or £49 for two sessions, also includes social-media and email support and advice on injury prevention. Sorry no children under the age of 16.

Ideally, everyone will need to attend the first session on Monday 6th November, 6.15pm, however, you will then be able to choose which day(s) to join us. Your choices are:

BodyFit Cumbria Running Club

We're excited to announce the formation of BodyFit Cumbria Running Club; an England Athletics affiliated club.

We have a great team of runners across all ages and abilities. Part of our success is the way in which everyone from beginners to more experienced runners are included, encouraged and recognised for their personal achievements. Joining up is a fantastic way to show off our club, to shout about our achievements and to show pride in being part of BodyFit Cumbria Runners. How to Stay Young

If you haven't seen this recent BBC documentary, How to Stay Young, it's well worth a look. It's full of top tips on what to do to stave off the aging process.

Episode two shows what brilliant results can be achieved in just 12 weeks. AND as Rachel Mellor and I are always saying - it's never too late to start. So if you've lost your mojo - take heart and use this programme and our classes to help get you back on track.

For me, sleep (or lack of it) is the most important factor for maintaining my health. In all other predictors, I score very highly, however, sleep is an independent predictor for heart disease, some cancers and diabetes.

If you're less fit than you'd like to be and would benefit from a class with plenty of options for easier alternatives, then try one of these:

If you're an older adult, then try our Older Adult Class on Fridays at 10.30am. The average age in this class is 70+.

Remember to use our 'What's On' Calendar to check times BodyFit classes and events rather than contacting us. The calendar is always kept up to date, many thanks.

If the year is selected, the calendar keeps scrolling throughout the entire year showing all classes and events listed.

Workington parkrun: Saturday 14th October

Join us for the Workington parkrun on Saturday 14th October, 9am. Broughton Primary School Running Club will be with us, so please join us if you can. There will be the usual 'social' afterwards at Workington Cricket Club which is just a few minutes walk from the parkrun finish line. Please bring a donation for tea/coffee/juice, thank you.

Parkruns are open to all ages and all abilities. However, remember to register before your first event. In the registration process, if you're a member of our classes or BodyFit Cumbria Running Club, you're invited to name your 'club' as BodyFit Cumbria. Just start typing it in the relevant field and it will appear.

Can't run? How about volunteering instead? All parkrun events rely on volunteers, so please do your bit if you can, especially if you've already run in a few events.

MetaFit with BodyFit

Try This! MetaFit with BodyFit... What is it?

  • The original High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workout that keeps on working!
  • Burn maximum calories in the minimum time because you're working at a very high intensity. The result is a heightened post exercise 'after burn' of calories
  • A typical MetaFit with BodyFit class is 45 minutes, comprising of 10 minute warm up, 25 minutes of HITT (including recoveries) and the remainder time for post exercise stretching.
  • No dancing, no keeping time to music, just good old-fashioned hard work!
  • Come and see for yourself...

We've adapted the format slightly by making both the warm up and stretch sections longer. Our aim in this is injury prevention. Doing just a few minutes warm up before such an intense session is okay if it's very hot but most of the time in Cumbria it's not! Also, we know from your feedback that many of you won't do post-exercise stretches on your own... the intension is there but as soon as you step out of the class environment 'life' takes over. As a result, our MetaFit classes are 45 rather than 30 minutes long.
